Cookies Policy

Last updated: September 9, 2026

The short version

This site uses one cookie that has to be there for the consent banner to work, and a small set of Google Analytics cookies that only appear if you press Accept. Nothing on this site uses cookies for advertising.

If you would rather not have the analytics cookies, press Decline in the banner. The site works exactly the same either way, and you will still be able to read the whole course.

What a cookie actually is

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to keep. The next time you visit, the site can read that file back. Cookies are used for all sorts of things, from remembering that you are logged in to counting how many people visited a page.

Some technologies do a similar job without being cookies, such as local storage in your browser. Where this policy says cookies, it covers those too.

Your choice

The first time you arrive, a banner appears asking whether you accept analytics cookies.

  • Press Accept and Google Analytics loads and sets its cookies.
  • Press Decline and Google Analytics does not load at all. No analytics cookies are set.

Either way we remember your choice so that you are not asked on every page. That record is the one cookie that is set regardless, because without it the banner would have no way of knowing you had already answered.

You can change your mind whenever you like. Clear this site's cookies in your browser settings and the banner will appear again on your next visit.

The cookies used on this site

Strictly necessary

These are needed for the site to work properly and are set whatever you choose in the banner.

Analytics

These are set only if you press Accept. They are used to count visits and understand which parts of the course people read. They are not used for advertising, and Google Signals, ads personalisation and advertising data sharing are switched off on this Analytics property.

Video

The videos on this site are embedded from YouTube using its privacy-enhanced mode. In that mode YouTube does not set cookies when a page simply loads.

If you press play on a video, YouTube sets its own cookies in order to play it and to measure playback, and it receives your IP address. Those cookies are set by Google rather than by us, and we cannot list or control them from here. If you never press play, they are never set. Google explains its use of cookies at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies.

Cookies this site does not use

  • No advertising or remarketing cookies.
  • No social media tracking pixels.
  • No cross-site tracking of any kind.
  • No cookies that identify you personally.

Controlling cookies in your browser

Every major browser lets you see which cookies are stored, delete them, and block them in future. The setting is usually under Privacy, Security or Site Settings. Bear in mind that blocking cookies across all sites can stop other websites working properly, and that clearing this site's cookies will also clear your recorded consent choice, so the banner will appear again.

A note for parents

Many of the people reading this course are children. The site has no accounts, no advertising and no social media tracking, and the feedback form does not ask for a name, an email address, an age or a location. The only cookies that do anything beyond making the banner work are the two analytics cookies above, and they are not set unless someone presses Accept.

If you would prefer that no analytics cookies were set at all on a device your child uses, press Decline in the banner, or block cookies for this site in the browser settings.

Changes to this policy

If we add or remove anything that sets cookies, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
